It was 2009 in Chapel HIll and Florida State's obligatory Thursday night game was turning into a rout—for UNC. The Noles had played perhaps their worst half of the season and were down 24-9 midway thru the third quarter when the offense finally woke up. Christian Ponder threw for 395 yards, engineering a wild 30-27 comeback win. The Sportcenter highlight of the night was this 98-yard hookup with Rod Owens, who had nine catches for 199 yards on the night. The play tied a school record set by Chris Weinke's hidden ball fake and throw to a wide open Snoop Minnis in 2000.

What's Wrong With This Picture?
Here's the banner displayed at FSU's introduction of the new Osceola logo. It represents a life span of the original Chief logo designed in 1971, as we've documented here on G&G. But wait. The banner says 1976.
It doesn't take much digging to know that FSU's iconic logo was in circulation at least two years before '76. Below are photos of the icon from 1974, taken from various publications. One is a shot of the '74 cheerleaders showing the guys wearing shirts emblazoned with it. And if you look closely, it appears the cheerleaders are standing on a large version of the logo, right smack on the 50-yard line at Doak.
The point here is mainly to set the record straight. Still, we can't help but note that the inaccurate banner is further evidence of how this bombshell of a logo change was, to put it diplomatically, not well thought out.
